| One of the most popular cosmetic surgery
procedures, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable
fat from areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, ankles,
neck and upper arms that have not responded to diet and
exercise. Local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used,
and the procedure can last anywhere from one to five hours
depending on the amount of fat being removed. The skin will then
"shrink" over the treated area in the months after
surgery to produce a permanent contour change. |

Abdominoplasty ("Tummy Tuck") is a surgical procedure that
helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess
fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best candidates are in good
physical condition with pockets of fat or loose skin that haven't
responded well to diet and exercise. Abdominoplasty can also be
useful for women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy. The
procedure takes approximately three to four hours and is performed
under general anesthesia. Recovery time ranges from two to four
weeks.

One of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery
procedures in the U.S., breast augmentation can give women with small or unevenly sized
breasts a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned look through the placement of
implants behind the breast. Women may elect to undergo breast augmentation
for many different motivations, including balancing breast size and
compensating for reduced breast mass after pregnancy or surgery. The
procedure may need to be combined with a breast lift for more satisfying
results. |
| Large breasts may cause physical discomfort. The size and weight of large
breasts can result in self-consciousness, improper posture, pain in the back
and neck, indentations from bra straps, and skin rashes under the breasts.
Breast reduction surgery is usually performed to provide physical relief
from these symptoms. The procedure may be covered by your insurance. |
Performed under general anesthesia, the three- to four-hour procedure removes fat and glandular tissue of the breast
and trims resultant excess skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a more youthful position and demonstrate
a healthier proportion to the rest of the body.
Modern surgical techniques makes it possible to reconstruct the
breast after mastectomy (breast removal) for cancer or other
diseases. The procedure is commonly begun at the same time as the
mastectomy, so that the patient awakens with the first step of a new
breast mound having been completed. Alternatively, reconstruction may
begin at some time after mastectomy. The whole process may total two
to three operations. There are several ways to reconstruct the
breast, both with and without implants. Dr. Gilbert, your
cancer surgeon, oncologist and, possibly, radiation oncologist will
work together with you in deciding which technique is the best for
you.
Blepharoplasty
can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing
excess fat and skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It can
also improve vision by lifting droopy eyelids out of the
patient's field of vision. The procedure is usually performed
with local anesthesia or "twilight" anesthesia and
will take 1 to 2 hours. The procedure can be combined with a
facelift or browlift to raise the eyebrows. To reduce the
appearance of wrinkles in the crow's feet area, BOTOX® or
Myobloc is used. |

One of the most common plastic surgery
procedures, rhinoplasty is performed to reshape the nose. It can
remove a hump, refine the tip, narrow the nostril width, change
the angle between the nose and the lip, or to correct injury or
birth defects. Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed
under either "twilight" or general anesthesia and
takes one to two hours.

In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their
toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jawline
slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts
counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles,
giving your face a fresher, youthful look. After surgery, some patients
appear 10-15 years younger. The results may last 10-15 years. Facelifts can
be repeated if necessary.

In addition to the immensely popular procedures detailed above, Dr. Gilbert also performs the following in-office procedures.

- Wrinkle filler materials
Restylane / Radiesse / Sculptra
- Alpha-hydroxy acid facial peels
- Spider vein sclerotherapy

- Laser Center
Vascular lesions / hair removal / wrinkle reduction / age spots/
